Adie Russell was born in Pittsburgh, PA in 1971. She grew up in New Jersey and Europe, completing her high school education in England. She attended the New School for Social Research and Parsons School of Design BA/BFA program in New York, graduating in 1994 in Creative Writing.
Exhibitions include Dreamy at the ZieherSmith Gallery in New York and Projects ‘06 at the Carriage House of the Islip Art Museum in Islip, Long Island, Flat, Square and on the Wall curated by Annette Lemieux at F.P.A.C Gallery in Boston, MA and City Guns at the Contemporary Artist’s Center in North Adams, MA.
In the summer of 2006 she studied in Italy with South African artists Rose Shakinovsky and Claire Gavronsky, and was invited to participate with them and 8 other artists in a six-week cultural exchange workshop in Cape Town, South Africa, which took place in early 2007. This summer she attended a residency at Salem Art Works in upstate New York.
